John McManus (New Zealand)

John MacManus (1875–1950) was a New Zealand politician, trade unionist and farmer.

Political activity

Born in Ireland in 1875, MacManus came to New Zealand in 1906. He was Secretary of the Dunedin General Labourers Union and during World War I he served in France. John MacManus was the NZLP candidate for Dunedin South in 1911, 1922 and 1925. He was a member of the Dunedin City Council between 1923 and 1926 (see the DCC website for information on former Dunedin City Councillors) and a farmer from 1926 to 1938.

MacManus died 1950.
